The mass implementation of information and communication technologies in our society has brought about changes in all spheres, but the effect it has had on the daily life of youngsters is even more notable. To find out what technological tools they have available and the use the youngsters between 15 and 16 years on the Balearic Islands make of them are the principal objectives of this study.

The "ICT and minors in the Balearic Islands" project has been developed by the Education and Citizens Research Group at the Department of Applied Pedagogy and Educational Psychology of the UIB, headed by Doctor Jaume Sureda. The publication presented is a study in which others apart from Doctor Sureda have participated, including the researchers Rubén Comas, Bartomeu Mut and Mercè Morey, and is set within the framework of the "XarxaSeguraIB" project, that analyses computers and the uses of information and communication technologies by minors in the Balearic Islands.

This is the second number of a collection called "IBITÀCOLES" which seeks to make better known the uses of ICT and the progress achieved towards the information society in different sectors and social spheres. The IBIT Foundation's Observatory of the Information Society aims to publish other studies and reports on the uses and advances in ICT in the public administration, the tourist sector, the audiovisual sector, the health field and working in a network, amongst other ideas.
