The principal objective of this line of work is to contribute
to the
sustainability of the model of rendering healthcare services through
the incorporation of telemedicine into the care processes. The line
focuses on the provision of tele-rehabilitation services in the homes
of the patients.
This project is being worked on jointly with the IB-Salut
(Balearic
Health Service) which provides the medical personnel necessary to
define and validate project requirements.
Currently there are various projects underway that seek to
implement
the use of video games in rehabilitation processes so that patients can
do part of their rehabilitation in their own home without having to
travel to hospital every day. This is done by playing in front of the
television with a video game that helps them in the rehabilitation of a
functional disability, however always under the supervision of the
hospital's medical staff.
Knowledge management and
transfer
One of the objectives that takes maximum priority in the iBit
Foundations' Health Area is that of transferring all the knowledge
acquired during the development of any activity. For this reason, a
permanent effort is made to compile and formalise all this knowledge in
order to disseminate it in the form of publications and training
courses.
During the 2009-2010 academic year, a Specialist University
Course on
the Integration of Healthcare Information Systems was given, which had
the primary objective of giving an overall view of the different
information systems present in the healthcare environment and an
in-depth analysis of everything related to integration. This course was
given onsite at the University of the Balearic Islands as one of its
own Postgraduate degrees, totalling 23.8 credits and 250 hours.
The Health Area also periodically offers training courses and
workshops
to technical personnel from the different bodies that form part of the
public healthcare system. These include:
- Workshop on the Integration of Medical Imaging (15 hours)
- Workshop on the Integration of Healthcare Information
Systems (15 hours)
- HL7 v2 Workshop (15 hours)
- Workshop on the Methodology for the Management of Projects
on the Integration of Healthcare Information Systems (15 hours)
In addition, there are periodical papers and publications at
major
conferences related to ICT and Healthcare at a national and
international level.
