The health area develops projects and activities that seek to
promote technological innovation in health system fields, both public
and private. This area's principal lines of activity are:
interoperability between health information systems, tele-medicine and
knowledge management.
With regard to interoperability, the ICC (Integration
Competency
Center in the health field) has been implemented in collaboration with
the Balearic Islands' Health Service (IB-Salut) to create a mixed body
that will allow the efficient and independent management of
intercommunication between information systems (IS) and data
integration.
The ICC's main objective is to achieve a more efficient use of
health resources, making heterogenic information systems compatible,
and accomplishing greater fluidity in communication, for example in the
case of patients with various medical records located in different
health clinics or systems. It also seeks the integration of medical
imaging such as ECGs, and the development of applications that improve
and help patients' recuperation.
In order to achieve this objective, a structure has been
designed
that through different projects will allow the specific objectives of
research, knowledge management and diffusion, and training to be
attained.
Four parallel lines of vertical action and three lines of
transversal action have been established: (1) Research (2) Knowledge
management and (3) Training, that serve to strengthen the
organisation.
- Interoperability
between information systems:
Projects are developed to solve specific problems or to offer new
services, working primarily with communication standards (HL7, CDA) and
integration tools (EAI).
- Integration
of medical imaging: Activities
are developed for the standardisation, transmission, storage and
display of medical imaging, both radiological and non-radiological
(X-rays, ultrasound, CT scans, echocardiograms, etc.).
- Univocal
patient identification:
Establishment of unique identifiers and standardisation of Balearic
Island patients' data so that different health bodies can exchange the
information necessary for their treatment.
- Work on
developments for project support:
Projects with added value are developed in the IT-health field,
applying SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) research results and
technologies such as J2EE, HL7, CDA, etc.
