The Systems Department focuses on developing ICT projects applied to
the development of information systems architectures and their
infrastructures for efficient knowledge management.
The main lines of research are directed towards:

The investigation, integration
and promotion of free software.
Promotion of solutions based on open source to resolve IBIT’s
ICT needs so that the experiences and knowledge can then be transferred
to SMEs, public administrations and organisations and civic
associations. Promotion and encouragement of free software to reduce
ICT costs in organisations’ information systems. Raising
awareness of free solutions and spreading the technology in the
business world of the Balearic Islands. Promoting the establishment of
free software communities for exchanging information, software and/or
improvements.

Intranet, Extranet,
collaborative tools, Enterprise 2.0.
Integration of tools to make work easier, information and knowledge
exchanges in the working environment. Pure Web 2.0 style group working
tools, intranets, extranets and document and content managers. Adapting
Web 2.0 concepts to the business world, Enterprise 2.0.

Corporate authentication, roles and accessibility.
Making user authentication and accessibility easier within
organisations' information systems using free SSO (Single Sign On)
technology. Providing IBIT with a centralised identity management
structure making it possible to reduce management administration costs.

Advanced technologies, green
equipment renewal, SaaS.
Investigating virtualisation solutions to maximise IBIT’s ICT
infrastructures. Future adaptation to the change in the software
business model towards Services (SaaS). Constant updating of
infrastructures according to the new technological trends in the
information society. Incorporating the concept of ecology and energy
saving.

Mobility, Teleworking and the
paperless office.
Adaptation of information systems so they are accessible from the new
mobile devices to facilitate teleworking. Adapting the information to
workers' new mobility requirements. Paradigm of connectivity anywhere,
anytime and anyhow, always with security, privacy and trust. Promoting
the digital world in the working environment to reduce paper costs
while improving its management.
