The IT Systems focuses on developing ICT projects applied to the information systems architectures development and their infrastructures for efficient knowledge management. One of the main areas of activity is to foster open source software as a real alternative for organizations, in order to reduce their ICT costs.

Under this premise, it was established “OpenTIC” lab, whose main objective is to promote, as a result of direct experience, awareness and technological spreading of open solutions for organizations and users of the Balearic Islands. The OpenTIC lab works analyzing different social/managerial aspects of free/open source applications and standards : code availability, interoperability and cross-platform, technical support, security, licenses, maintenance costs, information preservation, etc.

Additionally, it carries out a technology watch of the market in order to recommend open source applications and systems to enterprises and administrations. The process is accomplished thanks to the collaboration and cooperation with organizations, training activities, recommendation reports and other pertinent activities.

Other activities develop by the IT systems area are:

• Complete iBit systems management: computer networks, communication network,intranet, security, internet sites, content management systems, etc.

• Innovative IT project management, from idea to implementation, within iBit and other organizations.

• Applications and systems adjustment in order to support paperless office, mobility at work and telecommute.
