To promote the development of R + D + I projects in ICT for the tourism sector, the iBit Foundation created the laboratory turisLAB, which arises as a result of the collaboration agreement signed in late 2008 between the iBit Foundation and the cluster Turistec. This laboratory offers to the cluster´s companies its experience and knowledge gained by TurisLab over ten years of existence. The specific lines of TurisLab are based on data interoperability and process between the different actors in the value chain of the tourism industry, web service-oriented architecture, semantic web technologies and numerical methods for data analysis and acquisition of new knowledge. Some of the ongoing projects that demonstrate the reality of turisLAB and where most of the Turistec companies are participating as well as leading tourism companies from Balearic Islands, some of the flagship projects are: CAVAL on interoperability , BEAUTY that has the support of the Department of Applied Economics of the University of the Balearics (UIB), e-Invoicing which can become a benchmark in the Balearic Islands in the implementation of electronic invoicing in tourism and the Mashup-TV project which generates interactive tourism channels, in collaboration with the Department of Multimedia LTIM from the UIB.
