PIMES EN XARXA

The objective of Pimes en Xarxa (SMEs in a Network) is to develop a methodological tool that focuses on the management of collaborative projects developed by independent professional teams or groups of companies who work remotely. This methodological tool will have the expected result of structuring SMEs that work in a network.

Descripción

Many SMEs, micro companies and self employed people, almost without realising it, have gone from working for one single client in a direct manner to form part of workgroups that on many occasions work remotely and are distributed throughout the territory. What’s more, these professionals are working on various projects simultaneously and on different computers. This means they are often working asynchronously which can lead to a lack of coordination because each task receives its corresponding attention at differentiated times. This way of working in a network based on using ICT has continued to be improvised as these SMEs have steadily involved new computers and adopted ICT without a prescriptor, or without any suitable methodological training.

This improvisation has brought about a situation whereby at any given moment the professionals who are participating in the production of different projects suddenly at the same time find their emails flooded with messages that come from many sources, sometimes repeated, disordered, unfocussed and without a common location where the different versions of the production process can be seen clearly. Further shortcomings mean that the status of the task is not clearly shared, and neither is it clear who is heading the venture and the delivery date of each task within the project. What’s more, even if they have this system available, sometimes it can be noted that for each project a different system is used depending on the company or organisation that is leading the project and whatever their communications manager imposes.

Reflection is considered necessary to introduce some sort of methodology and systemisation of a new way of working in a network, as there is an increase in the outsourcing of many services which provide added value when they are served by more than one SME that specialises in each part of the project development process.

Given the trend of working in a network amongst SMEs on specific projects, the hope is to be able to provide companies on the Balearics with at least a methodological solution to tackle this collaborative manner of working in a network and thereby improving the production process, with innovation in the organisation management. Within this process, prescriptions of tools that are already on the market will be provided so that they can be adopted in an efficient manner and used by these SMEs.

The objective of this project is to develop a methodological tool that focuses on the management of collaborative projects, developed by teams of independent professionals or groups of companies that work remotely. This methodological tool will have the expected result of structuring SMEs that work in a network.

It furthermore hopes to make the Balearic companies aware of the use of these tools and the benefits they can offer.

Specific objectives:

  • To review the management standards in existing projects
  • To analyse the process of information exchange amongst the participants on a collaborative project, understanding what type of information is exchanged and how the exchange is organised
  • To establish a methodological means of collaborative project management
  • To define the requirements for simple and effective collaborative project management technology that is easy to implement and attainable by any participant on a collaborative project.
  • Making more known about working in a network amongst SMEs. Creating a greater understanding of the methodological element and the tools.

To successfully reach these objectives it is necessary to involve various SMEs to analyse their needs and a business association to make the results known.

The IBIT Foundation will participate as a Technology Centre providing its knowledge and a space to share the results and the established methodology. If it is necessary to develop or adapt a tool, this must also be taken into account.
